Personal experiences, whether positive or negative, always leave the time they find and are conditioned by dozens if not hundreds of factors: Angelo Rossiello.

It breaks me a bit to talk about my personal experience, I prefer to express myself with articles, studies and so on. Personal experiences, whether positive or negative, always leave the time they find and are conditioned by dozens if not hundreds of factors.
Like when the good Veronesi said that red meat causes cancer and I get mad and I think: I should have died a long time ago since I have eaten it twice a day for well over three decades ... Does it make sense? It doesn't make much sense (both what Veronesi says but also my imaginary answer) ...
However, many asked me what the benefits had been and how I had switched to a diet "paleo"... Then it was also a cathartic moment to make some personal considerations backwards ...

I have been doing sport for a lifetime with a past first as a tennis player, skier, then as a body builder and then as a cyclist, and I have always tried to take care of nutrition. I have always had the impression that it was the key to everything.
I had a comfortable and happy childhood but physically I was always fragile. I was born with a caesarean section and I had frequent respiratory problems, so much so that, after endless and horrible cycles of penicillin, the doctors decided to remove my tonsils and, seeing that they were there, they also removed my "unnecessary"Adenoids.
I've always been thin and underweight.
I often had intestinal problems, alternating between constipation and phases "liquid"Depending on the time"emotional"...
When I was 16 I was struck by a very annoying double form of rosacea and atopic dermatitis which, every now and then, "I treated"With cortisone ointments ... I was also bothered by dandruff and I had an unhealthy and hydrated skin. The hair was always very dry.
But I make a 15 year time jump, otherwise I won't finish it anymore ... I skip the 12-14 years as a bodybuilder who are interesting and that I do not deny, but which have little sense for the story "paleo". About those years I only say that they gave me a "discipline" with training and diet that was extremely formative for my future in general.
Always methodical from my notes, from "Hard gainer" ectomorph, I have overwhelming evidence that I was growing muscle only when I did the classic period of "strength" at the beginning of the season, short workouts, alactacids and long recoveries.

Distant 80s, early 90s ...

Best wishes to my friend and Master, Pasquale Iengo who with a lot of patience and skill managed to take me to the only race in which I participated.
Let's move on to 1997-2000.

Well, for years and years, even though I did a very well balanced diet according to the official science of the time and today (more or less: breakfast with rusks, ham, milk that never gave me squaraus ... Pasta for lunch with low proteins and dinner with proteins and vegetables) and did cycling at an amateur competitive level, covering up to 12.000 km in a year ... I was certainly skinny but I always had those pesky love handles and a foggy abdomen. I lived for work in Umbria, an ideal place for a cycling enthusiast.

I worked hard with hyperbolic sacrifices ... No saturated fats, no alcohol. Nothing ... Thin but always tarnished. Control cortisol, regulate workouts ...

At some point, already at the age of 31-32, I started having glycemic crises. Cold and stomach cramps while exercising, so bad that I had to stop.
In practice I had what today, I would easily identify as a clear symptom of metabolic syndrome! Despite the diet "perfect”And the hard workouts!
They also harassed me frequently sideropenic anemias that forced me to stay still even 2-3 months to recover from horrible sensations ... 2-3 sore throats / year and, sometimes, even the seasonal flu.
The sport of competitive endurance, I often say, it is like a litmus test, as the efforts and stresses profusely weaken the organism in an important way and make possible pathologies appear in advance that perhaps could have appeared later in time or even never ...
I remember that I was walking with my girlfriend of the time in the streets of Perugia when I saw the text "how to reach the area"of Barry Sears. I don't know what prompted me to buy it, but I did! I didn't know that, from that moment on, my life would change, for the better! I started reading the text and what it said made sense to me ... So much so that I immediately started trying to calculate the blocks and self-describe a food plan… It was a "area" but mainly with foods "paleo" but he still had some soy, some legumes and dairy products. However, my blood sugar control was much better ... After a few days, and with a lot of emotion, I resumed riding my bike and, since then, I have never tried those horrendous sensations again ...

After 1 month of "area"I felt so well and full of energy that I tried to compete in MTB without specific training ... HIT MY FIRST PODIUM! 3rd overall! Crazy! To think that until then a whole series of 15th-20th places ...
It was 2002-2003 and I had joined a forum where we were obliged to talk only about the zone diet and I also followed some useless and often deleterious advice from the doctor who administered it.
Within a few days the first overall victory also came, among other things in a race where the average level of the participants was even higher than the previous one ...
Indescribable joy!
Meanwhile my weight had dropped, in two months, by 5-6 kg, so by 10% of the total! ... I didn't even know where I had hidden that mass ... Surely in the viscera ...
But I was quite emaciated, worn and hollow in the face ...

The following week, however, I had to retire in a competition and accused horrendous symptoms of overtraining, high pressure…

I'll start from that point ... The zone had made me drop from 62-63 kg to 55 in about 3 months… Something was wrong.
The ferritin was in better shape but it was still low ... However the area had made me win a race and returned lion sensations for a few weeks ... I had to find the solution and square the circle!

I try them all for the following months:

  • I increase the fats, but not being able to use the saturated ones, we get inflamed with the excess of polyunsaturated w6;
  • I enter the famous "window"" Arcelli " of carbohydrates in the post WO, but it is a palliative…;
  • I try to insert only foods "paleo"...
  • It's better ... With paleo + window foods ...

But the feelings of those first months never come back. My rankings are getting worse even though they don't return to pre-zone levels.
I get a speck of old age that I still have on my face as a reminder of a bad time.
Inflammation from excess polyunsaturated omega 6 even worsens my dermatitis which returns to remarkably annoying levels.

We come to 2004, I feel that I have to change drastically… I read about this prof. Cordain and I write to him ... A dense electronic correspondence begins (which unfortunately I have lost) ed I start to try the "paleo"With the protocol for athletes he briefly suggested. There was nothing on the internet on the subject and I had to find the square of the circle by myself ...
The book did not yet exist "Paleodiet for athletes".
Try here, try there ...
Very well! I regain weight and go discreetly but never at the level of the beginning of the zone. But I am satisfied ... I manage dermatitis much better and above all regularize the intestine, a pleasant novelty for my life even if, at the time, I did not think it was the exclusive merit of the diet at all ...
The ferritin rises more and more ... The anemias are starting to be a memory ... I get sick much less.

It is born www.lazonalibera.it for which I will be moderating for almost a decade ...
For me an incredible and educational experience of disclosure! Forum closed today but still readable!

Meanwhile, my body remains emaciated on average and very thin. Muscles not really in evidence but better in tone.
Holy shit ... Something is still missing ...
Around 2006, reasoning with other users of the forum and also participating in other thematic forums overseas, continuing to study the scientific literature and some authors against the tide, we come to the conclusion that i saturated fats probably they weren't the absolute evil as we have always been told and that, in "paleo“, They should have worn out. I go against the fundamental principles of Cordain who continued, at the time, to be saturophobic (now he is no longer).
I start eating fatty meats, offal ... Yolks in unlimited quantities ...
I am reborn! Finally my muscles come out, my abs these strangers… I go great on my bike! The miracle of tanning without getting burned ... Many small important signs of well-being ...
And go like this! Finally here is the perhaps final key ... What I was looking for!

Not happy yet, I even tried paleoRAW for 2 years
(a particular variant of the paleo but with all raw foods, except the extra foods of the variant for athletes): the intestine improves further! I digest food like fresh water and even the performance holds up even if I lose weight again (in paleoRAW you can't eat as much food, at least as much as you need to train intensely). I can eat anything, even spoiled food, the terrible High Meat. My gut is a war machine ...
To give me new stimuli towards 2008 I go to triathlon and I discover myself as an athlete hitting absolute podiums (in MTB races). I also find myself a discreet runner with important climber aptitudes. At the first skyrace I classified 4th overall due to the cramps in the final ... Podiums on uphill races, time trials both in BDC and MTB ...
2011 my best season at 44! I even win a Vertical KM! Although it was my first participation in such a competition ...
I really like this multidisciplinarity and it gives me a lot of incentives to engage in competitions and training! One Sunday a duathlon, the next a time trial, maybe, the one after that, a mountain race ...
2nd in category arrival at the European X-TERRA Italy discipline (40-44 years) qualifying for the world championship in Hawaii (then I didn't go there) ...
2009 I'm getting married and I have to find a compromise between paleoRAW and paleo.
However, returning to partially cooked food does not significantly affect my health. Tight and lean physique with excellent performances until the end of 2012 when I decided to stop the exasperated competition to devote myself more to the family (I had a daughter) also thanks to a period of poor shape due to some new dietary experiments that I had tried and which led to chronic glycogen depletion. I won my last race in April 2012 in complete glycogen depletion and I will always remember the last few miles with clenched teeth no more energy with my head bursting ...
October 2013 the beautiful adventure of the bog you are reading starts ...
2014 my wife unilaterally decides to separate. I have lived through terrible moments, which are now slowly disappearing ...

Today my pleasure is to transfer my substantial personal experience with our blog ... In 2016 I even started doing some racing to keep the tension high and not laze ... And some "nice" results have also arrived for over 50 years ...

I train following the method of my invention: MITOCHONDRIAL TRAINING

Introduction to Mitochondrial Training: endurance

Angelo_7

The body is always dry 365 days / year. I do not deprive myself of anything.
Sgarri: I like to drink quality wine, I don't deny myself if a piece of aged cheese with artisanal raw milk happens (I repeat: IF IT HAPPENS!). These remain my main "vices". In the toughest training / competition periods I add a bowl of white rice to my usual solid post workout meal, which I consider basically a supplement since with the sporting activity I do I have noticed that I need food with a high density of carbohydrates and white rice is the cereal that I tolerate best, as well as gluten-free. With sweet potatoes or American potatoes, I can't recover like with rice.

I don't count macronutrients and I eat 100% on instinct. Once you get into the mentality "paleo", As you proceed you realize the simplicity and freedom of application, even the shopping is a quick formality once you have identified points of excellence in the area ...

I skip a meal every now and then to appreciate the benefits of intermittent fasting... Normally breakfast ...
Sometimes I do a day with low protein, I have noticed that I increase my appetite and digestion in the following days. However, I always do it instinctively and without any programming ...
I always try to eat a good percentage of raw foods, rich in enzymes and bacteria useful for health… From an analysis of the microbiome made out of curiosity, it was found that my microbiome is extremely varied and very similar to that of African tribes. It sounds unbelievable but it is.
Dermatitis? Every now and then he greets me from afar in the most stressful moments of life… Intestinal problems? A distant memory ... Iron? Very high, beyond the threshold limits, anemia? Never again had!
I had about twenty lipomas scattered around my body, most of which were absorbed after the first few months on the diet. The others remained still and encapsulated (someone surgically removed them without problems).
I occasionally cycle Omega 3. Sometimes I cycle Vitamin C in 2-3 doses per day. All this in addition to the other sports additions ... I expose myself to the sun whenever I can, even in winter. NAKED.

My life is governed by instinct. Instinct guides my priorities ... Sun, contact with nature, real food, playing like when I was a teenager, having fun even for bullshit, treating loved ones, regular sex, sports ...
It is not easy, but you do everything possible in a world that relentlessly pushes you to do the exact opposite ... Even a few minutes a day can be beneficial and can make a difference!

From all these experiences my / our first book is born THE NEW LIVING ACCORDING TO NATURE purchasable here:

The last few years I have been dedicating them to the study of physics and quantum biology which must necessarily be part of the future Evolutionary Medicine. Use of artificial lights, smartphones, PCs… WI-FI… They are in full contrast with our evolution. We have lost contact with the earth, we are always covered and never exposed to the sun and cold ...
Circadian rhythms ...
THE BIOHACKING!
From these studies a pioneering work was born that I absolutely recommend you read ...
Insomnia is just a pretext to talk about all-round performance and energy ...

This for me is the true philosophy "paleo“! NOT diet and not just diet ...
