CHRONIC VULVOVAGINITIS AND BLUE LIGHT THERAPY
Di David Cabras
A pilot study aimed to evaluate the characteristic signs and symptoms of chronic vulvovaginitis after treatment with blue light (LED).
Women with characteristic signs and symptoms of vulvovaginitis were interviewed to obtain clinical and sociodemographic data. They answered the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL)-bref questionnaires. Those with suspected vulvovaginitis underwent a clinical examination by a gynecologist, followed by a microbiological evaluation, potassium hydroxide test, vaginal pH evaluation, and vaginal fluid sampling for oncological cytology and fungal culture.
Study participants were instructed to return after 15 days to undergo the 405 nm blue LED treatment which consisted of three bi-weekly sessions.
Less than a month after completion of treatment, patients returned for re-evaluation.
All eight women reported improvement or healing of at least one characteristic sign or symptom of vulvovaginitis!!!
Finally, we can confirm how much a blue LED treatment can improve or cure symptoms associated with vulvovaginitis, sexual function and global quality of life score.
Our Kallisto can not only be a useful tool in these cases, but even much more effective given the 465 nm wavelength against the 405 tested in the study.

Finally, keep in mind that about 70-80% of menopausal women have vulvovaginal atrophies.
The most common symptoms, in addition to a very disabling dryness, are characterized by burning in the urinary tract, itching, bleeding, leucorrhoea, dyspareunia and dysuria. These symptoms appear a few years after the onset of menopause.
